How can I eliminate in the Selection of languages the multitudes of languages and keep only English (US) and German (Germany)?

It is a pain to always go through all those languages I never use und in the process more than once overshoot German.

Not sure if you can eliminate them, but I think if you go to Tools |
Language and then press the G key, it should jump you right to German
(that's the first G-language on my machine, anyhow).

Thank you very much for that tip.

I've been using Word for more years than I care to admit and
this is the first time I've run across that little trick
being mentioned.

It works in a lot of dialogs. Most helpful in the morass of Tools |
Customize.

Mine is Gaelic. German is further down.

Ah, Gaelic... I only have German and Greek, I think.

Well, still easier to hit G and then arrow down some. :)

I know my MacWord has languages listed that I have no proofing tools for,
which I why I suspect removing the proofing tools wouldn't change that list.
But I have no idea what generates that list, and it may be different on
Windows anyhow.

You know what would be easier still, though? Record some simple macros to
apply English or German, and give them a button or key combo, and bypass
Tools | Language entirely.

If you have the Language Bar enabled, you can switch languages easily.
Alternatively, you can define character styles that apply different
languages and assign keyboard shortcuts to them.
