Hello NG,
I need some help please.
I work for this small company that just moved to a new office and we share a
T1 line with another company.
What I need to do is password protect out workgroup so they employees of the
other company can't get into our systems.
We already have created a work group and place all our computers into this
work group, but I don't really know what to do next.
If someone clicks on one of our computers I want them to be presented with a
login screen asking for a user name and password, what do I need to do ?
Thank you
James

Ideally you would want to segment the networks so that a computer on one
network could not access a computer on the other company's network. Not only
would that keep each company from trying to access computers in the other
company but it will stop the spread of viruses/malware between the two
companies. If you do not know how to do such you should hire someone that is
qualified to set that up.

Having said that and assuming your computers are Windows 2000 or XP Pro, you
can create user accounts/passwords on each computer that will offer shares
and then the user trying to access the share will either be given a prompt
for credentials or give the user access if they are logged onto their
computer with the same logon name/password that is on the computer offering
the share. Be sure to use/force strong user passwords and make sure the
guest account is disabled on all your computers which it should be by
default. In Windows 2000/XP Pro you can right click the My Computer icon,
select manage, local users and groups - users to set up user accounts or
just enter lusrmgr.msc in the run box. You can use Local Security Policy
[secpol.msc] to configure password policy on your computers. --- Steve
