Hi,
I had a virus on both of my computers. My desktop was pretty good protectet
firewall and so on. It did minor demage. I just did a system recovery and it
works just fime. But my laptop is still down. When I startet my laoptop all
my personal files were gone. It looked like someone just installed a fresh
copy on windows. So I tryed a system recovery there as well....didnt work,
then I tryed a total new installation of windows and it give me an error
message saying that my windows version is wrong or the ID the wrong. Did
someone steal my ID???
If anyone can help me thank you very much

Stefan.
Are you using the correct CD and Product Key for that computer?
There are different kinds and they may not be interchangeable with the
desktop etc.

Check the manual and/or contact the laptop manufacturer for procedure
details.

Insufficient info. What is the operating system your laptop is running under?
XP, ME?

Did you attempt a reinstallation of Windows on that machine?

A typical reason for files to disappear is a wrong setting of the drive in the
BIOS. The LAST thing you want to do then is to write anything to the drive,
because if you do, then you perpetuate the apparent file system corruption and
turn it into permanent.

Maybe if you provided more information, but from the fact that you already tried
Windows reinstallation, the chances to recover your data are slim.

Not everything that starts with a virus should be resolved by AV. You would be
better of if you consulted a disaster/data recovery group before hasting into
system restore or Win reinstallation.
