Help...911..

my wife just called me from home....her windows xpsp2 machine seems to have
just been hit with a malicious virus of some sort...

The mouse pointer has been changed to a black padlock icon...and all sorts
of windows xp applications seem to be popping up all over the
screen...almost like something is launching all of the pc's
applications...and she cannot get the pc to do anything else....

Has anyone..and I do mean anyone...seen anything remotely similar to this
experience...any help will be...and I do mean WILL...be greatly
appreciated..

I did have her turn the pc off until I can get home to take a peek...hope
its nothing too serious....:)

Thanks........

When YOU get gone...and I mean when U get home...examine the PC and jot down specific
information then post the exact problems noted.

That didn't come out right -- Sorry :-(

When you are in front of the affected platform, examine the PC and jot down specific
information then post the exact problems noted.

David,

I now believe that the problem was caused by a failing logitech Cordless
Trackman FX track ball.....this track ball is almost as big as a
baseball..really nice to use...but no longer made and distributed by
logitech....and I have had three of them now go bad....after 3 years of
use.....but none of them have ever gone bad in this fashion....

Thanks for your help...I replaced the trackball with an old wired mouse that
I had laying around in my pc grave yard....and the problem has gone
away.......after I had removed the logitech mouseware software and
drivers....any way...the problem has now no longer reproducible....again
thanks for your assistance...

Lynn
