AVG has just told me it has removed two instances of the
trojan horse "Dialer.26.AN" from my computer.

I have just looked this up on Google, but Google didn't
find any instance of this.

I do not see any mention of "Dialer.26.AN" mentioned in
this News Group so far this month. Therefore can you tell
me if this is a real virus and a new virus?

TIA,

Nev.

It's (probably) a (porn) dialer, not a trojan and not a virus.

Thanks. The last time I got a persistent porn site was last week
when I was searching Google for "Boots for Drop foot" and the
URL went to a porn site that did not want to go away. I remember
some time ago I had a similar experience, not porn, with Google,
I couldn't find anywhere to complain to Google, though I guess they
would be too big to worry about a little complaint. I am not
complaining about porn labelled as porn.

To find out what an infector is such as "Dialer.26.AN", you have to look in the library of
that particular software that indentified it. Unfortunately, few companies if any assigned
the same name to a given infector. As Axel indicated it could be a Porn Dialer or it could
dial to a 900 number or opff shore number that will cause your telephone bill to be charged
big money.
