I keep getting a notice to install KB883939. After the computer
reboots it wants to install again. I tried a manual install, but I
have the same problem. Is there a registry fix to tell xp that it is
installed, or has never been installed? I would like to install the
patch, but It doesn't work. I am running xp pro sp2. Any help would
be great.

Try uninstalling the update?
A likely explanation for this symptom is that the final copying
of one or more of the modules which the update changes
was blocked by security software (which perhaps should be
disabled during the install phase of an update.)
Then the update would be reoffered because of the regression
but unable to be properly installed because it was already
partially installed.
There is an option on the update tool which allows users
to force an update to be installed (to override regression
checks) but AFAIK it is only ever used manually.
Uninstalling the update would restore the versions of the modules
which were present before the first install attempt and make the
second attempt more likely to succeed.
