Problem with ActiveX Update to Windows Update...

I'm not sure if I'm looking at a Windows XP problem or a Tablet XP problem,
here...
Has anyone had problems with the new ActiveX control update for Windows
Update? I downloaded and updated my Windows Update (it then becomes Microsoft
Update) last evening, and then used it to find and download 6 general Windows
updates (which were primarily security updates).
Somewhat to my surprise, half of these security updates failed to install,
but the bigger surprise was another pop-up window, a history window, that
showed 40 (!!!) failed update installations, starting on 22 June...! And, of
course, the information icon that was supposed to explain how to "fix" the
failed installs... didn't work!
I have no idea what to make of this. Anyone have any insights?

When I try to get updates the Windows Update site states: " Files required
to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer.
To continue:
Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended) "
It doesn't work. Then the solutions they suggest don't work. Where did you
find the new ActiveX control update for windows update? I'll be searching.

Hi,
See if reinstalling the Windows Update Agent using the standalone
installer solves the problem:
Download location for WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264
If it says "Install is not needed since Windows Update Agent is
already installed.", run the exe with the command line switch
/wuforce, like this:
WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce

I tried, but when I ran : WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe /wuforce
I got the message: Windows cannot find 'WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe' ...
Anything else I can try?
Thanks

Hi,
You need to add the path to where WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe
is placed.
The easiest way to to this:
1.
Unless you downloaded WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe to the Desktop,
open Explorer and locate the folder where the file is located.
2.
Open the Run dialog box (the one under the Start menu), and delete
any text that is displayed there.
3.
Drag and drop the file onto the Run dialog box.
4.
Go to the end of the text added to the Run dialog box, and add
/wuforce
(note the space in front of the slash)
5.
Press OK. The installer for the agent should now start to run.

The good news is that the drag and drop technique got the update installed,
the bad news is that I still have the original problem.
Thanks
