trying to install sp2 and it fails with error 0x80070017.
can any tell me the problem and also where I can look the codes up in the
microsoft support pages.

yust end task all programs runig on your PC and shut down the antivirus and
the firewall and instal the service pack agan (before instal run the backup
start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and click the backup
button)

Hopefully you are not suggesting disabling the firewall while connected to
the internet?
NEVER disable your firewall while connected to the internet unless there is
another firewall already in place.

You seem to have a CRC error (Cyclic Redundancy Check), normally caused by a
bad CD, bad download etc.
Download again and burn to CD or order the CD from Microsoft, Step 1 on this
link:

Follow the rest of the checklist to help be sure your computer is ready for
SP-2.

Thats for all your replys, I have overcome my problems, I borrowed a disk
with SP2 on it and it loaded OK and so what ever the original problem was I
don't know and can't affort to spend any more time on it. Thanks again.
