Over the past couple of days I have had various different problems with
Windows Update on different Windows 2003 servers. One problem I ran into was
fixed by disabling Symantec Antivirus. While I think this is an unnecessary
reduction of security, I can live with it for now. However, I have also had
issues with some new servers that have not yet had antivirus software
installed. Two in particular, at this moment, are both doing the same thing.
When starting Windows Update, it gets to "Checking for latest version,"
hangs there for a few seconds, then goes to an error page with Error Number
0x8DDD0004. I have tried many of the numerous suggestions in different
threads, such as checking proxy settings and re-registering DLL files. I do
not have any download accelerators (these are servers, after all). I checked
the download site for the WScript update, but did not find one for Server
2003 (There was one for 2000/XP but I didn't want to chance it since it
didn't list 2003 as a supported OS). Has anyone else had issues with servers
lately, and does anyone have any suggestions?
