Jim I am having the same problem, i.e., I can't download and install critical
updates. I have been "surfing" the web in order to resolve this problem with
no success thus far. Does anyone have any ideas re: this? I am running
Windows XP (Home) edition. I have read that if a system was restored to a
previous time and SP 1a was deleted or changed this can cause the problem???
Thanks for any assistance.

Yesterday I was notified that KB898461 was available to download. I tried
numerous times and no luck. The 'Installing Updates' window appears, and the
computer freezes and I am then informed that the install was not successful.
My last updates were June 14 and all worked fine. I have sp2 installed. Must
be a Microsoft problem if more and more people are having problems.
