Every time I go to the update site I am asked to download the latest windows
installer, which I do but then get the following message:

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem

With error code: Error number: 0x80072EFF

What is going wrong?

Thanks in advance
Nelmo

The 0x80072EFF error is "Network problems are preventing connection
to the Windows Update servers."
This issue occurs if the server is busy, OR if you have a problem
with Windows Script.
If this issue occurs consistently, you may be able to resolve the
issue by installing the latest version of Microsoft Windows Script.
For information about how to download the appropriate version of
Windows Script 5.6 for your operating system, visit the following

Try turning off your web accelerator, such as Speedband and see if you can go
to the update site then!

Thanks Dak, but I have already downloaded and installed the latest script
engine. I have also registered the various dll's that were suggested in
another knowledge base article.

I was having the same problem just a few minutes ago. My comp updated to
windows update v6 this morning and sometime between then and now I turned off
the JIT compiler for virtual machine (in internet options)... I turned it
back on and ...voila, it worked. Coincidence? I dunno. Try it if you have it
turned off.
