For some reason when I click on System Restore to set a restore point it now
reports "System restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart
your computer and run restore again." After restarting my computer the same
message reappears. I am guessing that some how the file got corrupt and needs
to be replaced. I am running Windows XP Pro 64 bit operating system. I do not
know what file to replace or where I would find it.
If anyone know I would appreciate your help.

Click Start, Search and look for SR.INF. It should be in "C:\WINDOWS\inf"
RightClick on it, then LeftClick it, select "Install"
Follow the prompts, Reboot and System Restore will be ready to use.

Another possibility is that the System Restore folder is damaged.
Disable system restore, delete the System Restore folder, reboot,
then re-enable System Restore. The folder will be re-created automatically.

To disable System Restore, Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore,
System Restore Settings, "System Restore" tab, and check the box. "Turn Off System Restore on
all drives", click "Apply" and "OK".
