Running XP Home and finally figured out that my troubles started after 16
June updates. Not a one of the KB items can be found so I don't even know
what they did. Only options now appears to be uninstall to see if problem
resolves. Anyone else with similar effects?

Yep!

I am running XP HOME, 1GB RAM, 120GB Hard Drive (70GB free).

Lost sound (Windows Audio not starting), Restore Point (service not
starting), Security Center (Service not starting), problems getting to the
internet (need to use the NETSH commands to reset TCP/IP and WINSOCK, etc.
Cannot send a paid email report to Microsoft (data collection process hangs).

Microsoft was/is no help.

Ran AdAware - no problem
Ran CWSHREDDER - no problem.
Ran 3 different virus checkers - no problem.
Ran CHKDSK - no problems.
Stopped firewall (ZONEALARM) - no change.
Reloaded Office XP Pro - for some unknown reason this helped a little.
Reloaded Windows XP SP2 - helped a little.
Ran REGISTRY MECHANIC - things are looking up.
Ran SPYDOCTOR - no change
Unloaded ZONEALARM and went with the MICROSOFT Firewall - progress being made.
Still have issues - so I
Stopped the Microsoft firewall and downloaded and loaded the Sygate firewall.

Things seem to be working at this time but it has only been 12 hours. I did
not have any problems prior to these downloads.

I had problems that were fixed with the following instructions. The
following was posted in MJ a couple days ago in response to my post. Good
luck.

Try this, follow these steps:

1. Put the Windows XP CD to the CD-ROM.

2. Click Exit if the auto-menu pops up.

3. Click Start, and click Run.

4. Type SFC /Purgecache" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and
click OK.

5. Type "SFC /Scannow" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and click
OK.

Note: There is a space between "SFC" and "/Scannow".
