This (fatal?) error occurred first:

> 2005-06-22 19:23:59 3048 f54 COMAPI FATAL: Unable to connect to the
> service (hr=80004002)

Try a search?

(Google Groups search for
(80004002 OR 0x80004002) (MSFT OR MVP) group:microsoft.public.windowsupdate
)

turns up several suggestions.

Let's start with:

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsupdate/browse_frm/thread/70d82ac868ffd5e8/2f5a2521a4070b84?q=(80004002+OR+0x80004002)++(MSFT+OR+MVP)++group:microsoft.public.windowsupdate&rnum=2#2f5a2521a4070b84

What version of Windows do you have?
What version of BITS do you have?

Etc.

Good luck

as
possible.

A) Most likely being caused by a User File (Temp files, History,

4. Put a check mark in the box "Delete all offline content", Click OK
5. Click on "Clear History"
6. Click on "Yes" in the confirmation box
7. Click on OK to close the window

B) Stop the Automatic Update Service

Distribution"
3. Search on your local hard drives (Normally it's on your C: Drive)
4. Under the More Advance Options, you want to put a check mark in the

"Search hidden Files and Folders"
5. Click Search
6. Once you've located the folder, Do a right click on the folder and
select
Rename (Located in C:\Windows)
7. Rename the folder to OLDSoftware Distribution (If you get a
permission
error, goto Step #9)
8. Reboot your machine, and preceed to try Windows Updates again.

9. Boot into Safe Mode.
10. If you're at the Windows Desktop, Click on Start, Shut Down and
Restart
11. Once the PC has shut down and begins to reboot again, Hit the F8
