when I go to the windows update, I get the following message and even after I
follow the step, I stll cannot get the updates, any one can help please
the message quote:-
The site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is
not running:

high-priority updates for your computer)

troubleshooting, if needed)
To make sure these services are running:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type services.msc and then click OK.
3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click
Properties.
4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply.
5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is
Stopped click on the Start Button.
6. In the list of services, double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer
Service (BITS) and then click Properties.
7. In the Startup type list, select Manual and click Apply.
8. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is

You may already have a virus/spyware hijack
download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://vil.mcafeesecurity.com/vil/averttools.asp
- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.
Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.

Use CWShredder, the removal tool:
http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html
(download it without the accompanying rubbish)
download AdAware SE Personal Edition from www.lavasoftusa.com, install,
update, and run it to remove spyware, adware, and other such nasties from
your system.

Noel,
After a few more attempts and followed the quoted instructions (in previuos
post) I was able to do the Windows update.
A little bit confuse on the 'CWShredder'
From the first website you mentioned, http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.html
where do you actually click to down load CWShredder
On the 2nd website ,http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.html, which actually
says it belongs to Trendmicro., I guess we can just download the stand alone
version and run it.
I have never try using CWShredder, so is it possible that please guide, thanks
