My OS: Win Me, Intel Pent III 850 Mhz, 512 RAM (4.5 yr old DELL computer).
IE Service pack 6 for other than XP downloaded from MS Windows Update
website.
(Don't know if I'm in proper question area): "Successfully" downloaded IE 6
upgrade from IE5.5 BUT resulting boxes appear when trying to run setup: Box
Title: Windows Update" IE and Internet Tools - subtitle: Resume Win Update: I
E & Internet Tools: (text) "Setup has detected .. previous installation was
not completed. Do you want to recover and continue setup?". Choices: Yes,
resume Setup and No, run Setup from beginning. Select this option if setup
has failed more than once". ... Choosing either results in fllwing error box:
Titles: Windows Update: IE & Internet Tools: Setup was unable to install all
the components. Plz close all applications & try running setup again". Note:
All other applications are closed.
Unable to find where this "unfinished previous download" is located.
Have tried deleting IE6 and re-installing. Can anyone advise what I can do?
Thanks for your help. John

Does this persist after rebooting?

Yes it does, Mike. However, after posting my question I read through the
other questions and found a solution posted by "Zee" which worked first time
round. In short: Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder options - View: - Select
"Show Hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK.
Then Create a folder named "Old Uninstall" (which I did in My Documents).
Then Go to Folder C:/ Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information,
Now Edit - Select All - Cut (not copy) all files.
Open "Old Uninstall" folder and paste files (which can be deleted after a
successful install of IE 6).
I was then able to install IE 6 without any problem. Many thanks for
responding to my question and have a great day.
