I was shutting down my windows Home Xp and it told me to not shutdown the
computer because windows is updating...Well nothing really happened, I waited
an hour and no progress happened...So I shutted down my computer and when I
started up, I noticed that everytime I try to contact the windows update
pages via explorer or the control panel, explorer jams totally...Then I
noticed when I deciced to do an system restore that I had installed just a
few minutes back SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION SERVICE 2.0????

So the question is what is it? Can it be uninstalled?Is an virus,troijan or
is an windows application??

Hi,

I am having MAJOR issues with my puter since this SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION
SERVICE 2.0 just appeared on June 16th and June 17th at 3 am on my puter.
Both times my puter automatically shut down and the only way I was able to
restart was to select the choice for starting at the last point where there
was not a problem. However, then when my puter would boot back up it
wouldn't recognize my dvd and dvd-rw drives. the only way I could get past
this was to do a system restore at a point where this software distribution
service 2.0 was deposited on my puter.

i can of course choose now to not automatically have these security updates
installed at 3 am BUT i would sure love to know what it is and what initiated
it.

Any clues or info from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much
for your time and input.
