Windows update searches for updates, but never stops. I don't get an error
message, and it will continue to search for updates until I finally control,
alt,delete explorer. I've currently let it cycle for over an hour.

The last update I have recorded in my history is for service pack 2.

I've tried looking through the faq and the help site, but have found nothing
thus far.

Use Notepad or Wordpad and open & look at the Windows Update log file
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log or C:\WINNT\WindowsUpdate.log

Scroll down all the way. Look at the set of lines for the last session at
Windows Update.
Look it over.
Do you see anything with "Error 0x........" ?
