When I try to reach windows update with my windows 2000 server box I get the
following errormessage when I click the link "scan for updates"

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page.

Errornumber is 0x80090305

In the windows Update log I found these entries:

I have ServicePack 4 and Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 installed on the
system.

Joakim,

Is this update installed ? :

Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB835732)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0692C27E-F63A-414C-B3EB-D2342FBB6C00&displaylang=en

If not, download and save it. Close IE, then install it.
Restart the system and see if the issue is resolved.

If it is installed already, try re-registering these files :
Go to Start, Run, type in

regsvr32 schannel.dll

Click OK. You should receive a notification of the successfull or
unsuccessfull registration of the file.
Now do the same for these files, clicking OK after inputting each one :

rsabase.dll

rsaenh.dll

Revisit Windows Update to see if the issue is resolved.
( If you get an unsuccessfull error message when registering the .dll
files then you can run sfc /scannow to replace needed system files.
