Went to Windows Update. Tried to install the following:
Security Update for Windows XP (KB896358)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB890046)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB896422)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB896428)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP
Service Pack 2 (KB883939)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB893066

All failed due to error 80070002. As suggested in the Windows Update
Troubleshooter, I turned off automatic updates in services, removed
all files from %windir%\SoftwareDistribution, turned automatic update
service back on and ran windows update again. Same result. I then went
to the MSWindows download site and downloaded KB896358 and tried to
manually install. It ran but failed. The error message was "The System
Can Not Find the File Specified".

Anyone have any ideas?

Hate to reply to myself but I solved this issue by going to
update.Microsoft.com and running version 6 of Windows Update.
Everything downloaded and installed with no problems. Very odd if I do
say so.
