Can Windows Update Catalog be Accessed w/ Non-Windows OpSys?

I've had to re-install Windows 98SE once again, but don't want to access the
Internet with an unpatched/un-updated system.

My only other system is non-Windows, non-IE. The Windows Update Catalog
site, v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp, won't allow
access. I get an error page returned saying the requested page is
"unavailabe".

There's no problem with my HOSTS file: I tried the telnet trick suggested
in an earlier post and was able to telnet to the site.

Can the Windows Update Catalog be accessed with a non-Windows system? If
so, how?

Thanks in advance for help.

Probably not, since the site requires Java Script and ActiveX controls.
You may be able to go directly to
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/ossearch.asp but I have
no idea if that will work or if you will even be able to use the site.

I'd recommend you install a 3rd party software firewall on the 98
system, then let that one go directly to the WU website.

Yes, it allows access to the ossearch page but returns "0 results" after you
click the search button. Must be lack of ActiveX controls.

Guess I'll go ahead and access with W98/firewall, burn to CD, then
re-install W98 just to be sure.
Thanks for the help.
