I have reinstalled a old (ish) version on XP, pre SP1 I think due to a worm
attack on my PC. I wish to run the Updates on the PC however I keep getting
a Time Sync error. I have checked the time and all looks ok. Because I
cannot update, I think that this is the source of my problems with out of
date certificates. can anyone shed any light on this.

Use the following to set the RPC service up anew:

1. Start/Run ==> cmd.exe
2. net stop w32time
3. w32tm.exe /unregister
4. w32tm.exe /register
5. net start w32time

Note spellings w32tm and w32time in different commands
Use all 5 steps regardless of any error messages
