Internet Connection Issue
Hi, I was wondering if someone can help me. I have windowsxp and I have
service pak 2. About 2 weeks ago I started having a problem out of the blue.
When I click on a icon on my desktop to go to the internet it takes about 2
to 5 minutes for the site to pull up. Sometimes it just times out and I get
hung up and have to reboot and try again. This means all sites not just a
particular one. This occurs on my laptop computer. I have a backup computer
(both connected via a linksys router) and the backup is fine. I can go as
normal to the internet on the backup. Could this be a problem with an
update? I have automatic turned on. I have I.E.6. Can someone point me in
the right direction to get this fixed?

It would appear that you may have spyware/adware/scumware/virus on board, go
to this site and install, make sure you get updates, and run a full scan
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=321CD7A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en
download adware and check for updates and run a full scan
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=pop
Update your anti virus program and run a full scan.
open my computer go to your local disk usually (c) then go to documents and
settings then to your user account, up top go to tools, then folder options,
view, and check "show all hidden files" hit ok and now go to local settings
and open temp file and delete contents, then open temporary internet files
and delete contents close.
Next go to my computer right click on local disk usually (c) and go to
properties, then go to tools and then defrag and run defrag.
These tips will ceratinly make your computer run much better.

Terry,
I have tried everything I know how to try but I have been unable to fix the
problem.
I used Adaware to remove spyware.
I ran a virus check using the latest Norton updates from both my hard drive
and from the Norton site.
I did a defrag.
Did a windows update.
Cleaned temporary Internet files.
Ran Norton Utilities.
Still when I click on an icon on my desktop to go to the Internet it takes
the site (any site) 2 to 3 minutes before it pulls up.
Any feedback you can provide me will be greatly appreciated.

I have done everything, do you think it would be worth uninstalling service
pack 2 and reinstalling? Is their a windows repair tool I can use just in
case that is the problem?
