Hi,
I receive the above error when searching for updates (either Express or
Custom).
I have Windows XP Home sp2 and IE v6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
Windows update v6 (v5 didn't work either....no error msg)
Any suggestions?

due to some of the WU client dlls not registered correctly.
Please try the following:
go to start run and type in following commands each time hit ok and repeat
till you have done the 4 entries.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
restart the machine and try WU site again.

Hi;
It may be possible to fix this by getting rid of any corruption
in the MU downloads. Give this a try:
1. Close all open programs. On the Start/Run line enter: net stop
wuauserv
2. Delete the .\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. You will lose your
MU History, but that really isn't a major loss.
3. On the Start/Run line enter: net start wuauserv
4. On the Start/Run line enter: regsvr32 msxml3.dll
5. On the Start/Run line enter: regsvr32 softpub.dll
6. Open Control Panel, then Internet Options. On the General tab click
"Delete Files..." and then mark the option to delete offline content.
Now open one instance of IE and give the MU website scan another try.
