The computer has been installed windows installer 3.0. Now it can't be
updated to 3.1. And 3.0 can't be uninstalled. Error number is 0x80070080.
There isn't help document in microsoft Web. Thanks your help!

Hi;

Do you have an older version of 3.1 listed in your Add&Remove Programs
listing? If so, the first step is to Remove that one.

Next, do a Restart into Safe Mode. Open the SoftwareDistribution folder
(it's in Windows) and delete the DataStore and Download folders. Then
empty the IE TIF and your local Temp/Tmp folders.

Restart back into Normal mode and visit the WU website again. Does the
3.1 installer get onto your system now? If not, go here
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803 ) and follow the link to
manually download and install 3.1 without using Windows Update.

into Safe Mode, I can't remove Installer 3.0 version. There isn't 3.1
version in Add&Remove Programs list. The windows install service is started.

How about 893803 instead then? ;)


BTW if you need more help you should provide many more details
about your both your system and your problem. E.g. what OS?
what version of WU? Extracts from install log, etc.
