Request assistance - we loaded the latest Windows XP updates and now in MS
Outlook 2000, when we click on ANY email in ANY folder, we get an error "MS
Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. Any data yo uhave been
working may be lost". the only thing you can do is hit OK, and then Outlook
closes. I have uninstalled MS Office 2000, rebooted, reinstalled MS Office
with all service packs and updated; Then I uninstalled Norton Internet
Security 2005, rebooted and reinstalled plus ran live update until all
updates were downloaded & installed. Microsoft Office support personnel
stated this is a problem with the latest security updates to Windows XP.
What can I do to resolve this Outlook problem? We cannot read our email
without first clicking on forward or reply to read the original emai.

Hi;

First thing to do is to find your Outlook file(s) and make a good
backup. Search your system for all .PST files; be sure you elect to
Search in Hidden folders. Copy all the ones you find to a safe
location.

Others have reported that Norton NIS can cause problems similar to what
you report. Suggest you uninstall Norton NIS and see if you can read
your email then. If so, you may wish to check with the Symantec folks
to see if they know of a workaround or update for NIS that fixes this
issue.

Or use another AV product.

Last, if you haven't already I recommend you install SP3 to your Office
2000 installation. If you have SP2 there may be issues in the Outlook
security feature. Here's a direct link for the download:
