unable to install sp2

Two days ago my computer crashed and I was forced to reformat my C drive.
After finally getting everything to work again it was time to install
sp2--which had already been running on my pc prior to the blue screen of
death.

12 hours later, getting closer to the point of just throwing my pc out of
the window, I am still not able to install sp2 due to error message 8007F070
which I can't find explained anywhere.
I find out that maybe by installing .net framework version 1.1 sp1 my
troubles will be over... but I find that this installation also refuses to
load, this time due to error 641, an error for which again there is no
information to be found.

The computer works fine under sp1 with all the latest updates, so not
installing sp2 isn't a great loss to me, still...

I hope that somebody will be able to answer some, if not all, of my questions.
Thanks in advance

There are specific steps that you need to take prior to the installation of
Service Pack 2. These are detailed on the Windows Update website. Briefly,
you need to find and install the latest drivers for your hardware, make sure
your system is malware free, run defrag and disable all anti-virus scanners.
Check the Windows Update website for all the details.
