New windows install, updates & fresh install

I just built a computer, loaded windows XP, downloaded the updates from
microsoft. I had problems and had to do a fresh reload of windows. When I
checked for updates, the microsoft site stated that there were no updates
available.

Even though I had to perform a fresh install of XP, does that mean that the
updates were retained, or do I need to reformat the HD and start over again?

Hi Matt,

See if the information and resolutions in these MSKB articles help you
resolve the problem:

You cannot view updates on the Windows Update site using secure socket layer

Windows Update reports that new updates are not available, although your
computer is not up to date
