Okay I can't get BITS started. Running XP. Tried re registering several of
the relevant dll's. Tried the bitsadmin tool to repair the service to no
avail. I am using the local system account. BITS set to automatic tried to
start but get error 2147942402 and 2147024894. Rebooted and rebooted. Any
clues as to what to try next? thanks.

Suggestions only:

Try re-registering the Qmgr.dll and Qmgrprxy.dll BITS files.
1. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 qmgr.dll in the Open box, and then
click OK.
2. Click OK.
3. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll in the Open box, and
then click
OK.
4. Click OK.

Try WU again (you may need to reboot) first.

"If your computer download an update, but there is not a error number check
the view installation history. you might get an error 80246008. If that is
the case. you might have an error 2147024891 after trying to the BIT

start/run: services.msc
double click on: Background Intelligent Transfer Service
change it to manual, and then click start ..if you get 2147024891 error..

DO THIS !!!!!!IT WORKED FOR ME!!!!

Delete the two files in:

C:\Documents and
Settings\AllUsers\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Network\Downloader

run the start in the Background Intelligent Transfer Service

and you will see the update windows running again :)"

Another thing:
Make sure that the Remote Procedure Call Locator is not disabled:
Click Start, select Run and type in:
services.msc
Locate " Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator".
If it is disabled, then right click on it, go to 'Properties', change to
'manual' and
Apply.
Try starting Bits again

Thanks or the reply. I already tried those solutions, and just tried em again
but to with no luck. I reregistered a bunch of other dll's too. i also tried
stopping WU then re registering then starting WU. I now my prob is with BITS
and it wont start after switching modes ( automatic, manual) nor when using
the local system account the SP@ tool Bitsadmin tried to rebuild BITS and
restart but it gets an error when trying to restart. Any other suggestions,
thanks again for the help.
