Thanks for the advice but I was able to get my sound back by utilizing the
system restore utility that is reached by clicking the start menu, system
tools. Instead of going back to the original system restore I was able to go
back to the day before this "update" when my system was working perfectly. A
guy at work told me about it and I'm surprised that the Microsoft tech guy or
the tech guy at the store where I bought it didn't offer that as a possible
solution.
