I had installed several Windows Updates several times ago since 2002. I had
to re-install my computer several times. Many dll's etc are outdated. How can
I re-install the Windows updates that are marked as already being installed?

Bokkie,

XP ? XP SP1 ? XP SP2 ? When you got to the Windows Update site is the
system accessing the V4 or V5 site ?
Did you do Repair Installations or reinstall by reformatting ?
It *sounds* as if you did Repair Installations and the registry keys
were left intact.

Hi MowGreen
Thx for the response.
Sorry for the late reply, but we have a timezone difference of at least 6 hrs.
I am still an old-fashioned Win98SE kind of guy, so I get into V4.
I am probably asking something obvious, but I just do not know how to
re-install updates that have been downloaded and installed over the past 3
years. I had to format my hard-drives and re-install Windows 98SE (I still
have several components with drivers that do not work on XP). Now I detect
that one of these components requires some Windows ADO dll's that were
upgraded with Windows Updates.
Whenever I go into the Windows Update website and review the installed
updates, it tells which once have been installed over the past 3 years.
Several of them I need to re-install, but I do not know how, as the website
doesn't allow me to re-activate them. I found some files in
C:\...\WindowsUpdates, which I think are the once that have been downloaded
from the site. If I should re-install these, how do I have to do this?
Thx for your help i.a.

Bokkie,

The Windows Update site is "reading" an xml file to show the Windows
Update History. The file in question is :
C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\V4\iuhist.xml
You can view this file by showing hidden files, folders, and system
files : http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
This does not mean that the updates are currently residing on the
system. It shows the updating activity that has already occurred on the
WU site.

Go over the list of previously installed updates to determine which ones
need to be reinstalled, then use the Windows Catalog to download the
updates : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323166
Save them, as the updates you cite in C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate are
not reusable. You can then burn them to CD in case you need them in the
future.
