MJLowe,
I have the EXACT same problem you are describing. The 0x800A0005 error
when trying to install Windows Updates, the empty Device Manager, and the
empty Network Connections. I tried to follow along with your steps to fix
it, however I encountered a problem. I can get as far as
"hkey_localmachine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\pci" but I do not have the
"sccsiprt1" key, and I've checked all around the registry and did not find
any of my sub-folders that had the permission set to Deny. Do have any idea
what I should do or how to find which sub-folder is set to Deny? This is
driving me crazy! Thanks for any help.
