I am about to upgrade my operating system from Windows 2000 Professional to
Windows XP Professional. I am running Outlook Express with SBC DSL Yahoo
interface. I would like to maintain my address book and email messages after
I change the os. How can this be done?

Normal case is when you upgrade, it will retain those. But for that just in
case time it doesn't, copy the dbx files and .wab file to CD.

When you finish the upgrade AND if the messages and address book don't
appear, create a folder in Windows Explorer. Copy the files to that folder.
Open that folder. CTRL A to select all, then right click and select
Properties. Now make sure the Read Only check box is unchecked.

Now from within OE, File | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6 |
Import mail from an OE6 store directory | press OK.
Press Browse then navigate to the folder where you copied the dbx files.
Select it, then press OK
Finish up the import.

For the Address Book, just File | Import | Address Book then navigate to the
folder where the WAB file is located and select it and finish up the import.

To find the DBX files:
Tools | Options | Maintenance tab | Store Folders button.
This will show where they are located.
If, when you open that folder in Explorer, they do do appear, then go into
Explorer's Tools | Folder Options |Views tab abd select "Show all files" and
uncehck "Hide file extensions for known file types" and press OK. They will
be visible now.

For the Address Book, as long as it's not shared with Outlook, open Address
Book and click on Help | About and it will show the location of the WAB
file.
