Is there a simple way to doctor your identity just for one message? I do not
want to set up a separate identity, accounts, newsreader, etc just for the
one message a month or less that I wish to mask my return address when
replying to a newsgroup message.
Not looking for full mask but just the obvious "from".

Why not just change the 'From' address in the account properties before
composing the e-mail or post? For "one message a month or less" that
shouldn't be too much trouble.

Or even easier: Simply setup a second mail account identical to your
main one with just those little differences you wish. Then simply
choose this account when sending this one special message. ;-)
Make sure, that this "obscure" account a) is not your default account,
and b) that this account is not included at Send/Receive (can be turned
off in the options of the account).

Trying that here-now Ted. If its what I want thank you. Rather "thank you"
even if its not. LoL
Rolands idea below is what I said I didn't want unless I misunderstood him.
I can see me accidentally using the wrong identity for a business message
and that would be a mess.

Did the job fine. Thanks again. Thought I had tried that once with no change
in my address under properties but it worked fine.

Might be a misunderstanding indeed. I didn't suggest to create another
_identity_, but another email _account_. But your problem of mixing
things up remains there, too. You would have to check very careful the
account used for sending a message. But with one or two such messages
a month this can be done, in my opinion. Actually, that's exactly what
I am doing ... <g>
