Juno with OE?

Anyone have experience with Juno? A friend has Juno, costs $10, has email
and browsing, but no other app has any access to the internet except the
Juno browser. I have turned off all the firewalls I can find, including XP
firewall. Can't update AVG, can't use IE, can't use OE. Can't use Mozilla,
etc. Can't use Trillian. The Juno browser gets his email, and browses for
him.
Does anyone know of a more pertinent group to post this to?

What happens when you try to use OE? Any error message?
I'm guessing your friend is using June Platinum version at $9.95 per month based on this:
http://www.juno.com/signup/comparison.html
And according to this, with Platinum version, Outlook Express can be used:
http://www.juno.com/support/email/email-setup.html
As for problems with IE, see:

Thank you, I was hoping somebody knowledgeable would answer. No response, no
error messages other than possibly no connection. I turned off all the
firewalls I could find. I'm pretty sure Juno has its own. My friend used to
have a broadband connection that is not active any longer. This was
disturbing to me because I could not update the AVG. I read the Juno support
pages, but nothing in them helped. I think its the way its built, but I
could find nothing on the problem when googling.

My current (and long term) ISP is about the same price but more robust and
unlimited in any way so while this does not answer your question it is a
possible solution to your friend's malady if they've a local access number
for this company:
http://www.localnet.com/
There's some numbers if they're in Texas like you are, they can search here:

boywonder,
As soon as possible, have your friend restart the firewall on PC, you are
just looking for trouble.
Is you friend using the software that Juno provides to make his/her
connection to the internet, or are they just using Windows connectoid with
Juno access phone #.
I believe that they need to use the software Juno provides, and may have to
do the same thing AOL users used to do, and may still need to do, but I am
not sure about that, if they wanted to use IE and OE.
1. Connect to Internet, by running Juno software, when the Juno browser
appears, just minimize it, don't close it. Then you can use what ever
browser and mail client you want.
2. On the Juno Icon that they click on to use the internet, right click it,
and try setting it to open in a minimized window. You will see Juno running
on the taskbar, but Juno browser page should not open up.
3. Then go to Control Panel> Internet Options> Connections tab> Select
"Never Dial A Connection". Do not remove the dial-up connection that is seen
on that tab.
4. If using any other browser then the one provided by Juno, then they also
need in the preferences/settings section, have no connection selected.

Best solution appears to be the switch, thanks for your suggestion. I found
out on another group that Juno is a closed system. I have suggested he use
the http://www.hal-pc.org service that I use for the same price.
