Main identity password issues

Hi,

I recently replaced my Mainboard, CPU and RAM. This was followed with
a reinstall of Windows. (Just the system files).

My problem is with the password prompt when I now open OE6. This
screen shows the default profile as "Main Identity" and asks for a
password. I have never before seen this screen or created any profiles
and password that I can remember.

I thought I could create a new profile and import the emails from the
"Main Identity" to the newly created profile, but I also need a
password for this.

I really have no idea why this screen has now come up as about 10 mins
prior to getting this screen I was able to get into OE without any
password prompt, I値l explain what I did step by step and hopefully
someone can point me in the right direction.

1. Replaced M/B, CPU, RAM.
2. Reinstalled WinXP sys files.
3. Opened OE, downloaded new messages.
4. During this time the windows updater had downloaded new updates and
wanted to restart, which I did.
5. After the restart, atempted to open OE but got the Identity screen
and password prompt.

The last time I was able to get into OE I had only downloaded new
emails. Nothing in the setting screen was changed.

Any help in this is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure what generated the problem, but to get the messages back you
can move the dbx files for that Identity you can't access to another
directory. Then, while in the other Identity you can choose File | Import |
Messages and choose not to import from an identity, but from a directory and
that should get all the messages back.

see here for more details on recovery techniques:
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

If you search for *.dbx (hidden) you should be able to find that older
directory that you can't access via OE now.

Steve, you Sir, are a legend.

I did what you said, it worked, found the directory where all the .dbx
files are, pointed OE import messages to the right directory and
viola, all my emails are back.

Thanks so much for you help! :)
