I have a old message in outlook express that my AV program says has a virus
in it. Pretty sure its been quarrantined, but would like it removed anyway.
The AV program always finds it, and deletes it, but next scan its always
picking it up. Some others too, but I found them with the subject line, and
deleted them, but this one only gives a message no. and no subject or dat
Anyone know how to get to it? Thanks.

/Identities/xxxx......7659}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Inbox.dbx=>(message
8580)=>(base64)

Don't know of a way to search using a base64 encoded messageid as the
filter. What antivirus program is it that fails to pinpoint the supect
mail? Try one of the online scanners from another AV provider such as Panda
or Trend Micro.

http://www.bitdefender.com/site/home/ 30 day trial.

It will find emails that originally contained the viri, even though another
AV app may have already disabled the virus from doing anything, it still
will
find the email it came in.....and try to remove it, but in this case, the
email must have no subject line, because all the others had one, and I could
find them easily by doing the subjesc search, and manually delete them -
then the scan dont pick them up again.

I tried Panda active scan , and it did not find that one. Its probably just
a virus with its teeth pulled now, but it would be good to just remove it
kit n kaboodle if possible.

The problem here is that OE stores the messages as 512 byte pieces in the
dbx file. So the messages are not intact. Antivirus scanners cannot detect
the virus in the message (most of the time), because the message is split
into pieces. Only when the message is opened does it get reassembled, and
that's when the antivirus software finds it.

Try sorting the messages by size and then you can start opening the ones
that are larger (your message suggests that the bad message also may contain
an attachment, which is likely the virus).

Make sure you see here: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Antivirus software does not work well with OE. Very often, if it thinks it
finds a virus, it wipes out the entire file and all the messages in it. So
you should definitely turn off email scanning and don't scan a dbx file for
viruses, unless you don't care about the other messages in it.
