How can I keep my ISP from downloading email to my laptop?

How can I keep my ISP from downloading email to my laptop? I have a wireless
network in the house with a desktop computer and a laptop computer. I want
to avoid downloading email messages into my laptop when I read them so that I
don't end up with some of them on the desktop computer and others on the
laptop. If I could leave them on the ISP server until I download them onto
the desktop computer that would be ok, but I can't seem to avoid downloading
them onto the laptop if I peek at them from there. I have tried to turn off
the option to download messages at the laptop in vain. I cannot seem to be
able to store all the dbx files in some shared folder on the desktop either.
Is there a way to solve this problem?

Hi Jerry,
Two possibilities are to block downloading messages using a message rule or
to leave a copy on the server for a number of days to have them available
for download to one or both PC's.
Using a Message Rule (example)
Where the To line contains people (e-mail address)...
Do not Download it from the server
Test checking mail using the rule to be sure of the desired result.
Messages Left on Server
Tools | Accounts | Mail | Mail Account> Properties | Advanced tab
This would allow a duplicate to be downloaded to both PC's. Limit the time
messages are left to avoid a full mail box (on the server). An alternative
to using this setting on both PC's would be to set only one (PC) account to
leave messages on the server. For example, if not set on the desktop PC
messages downloaded to it would not be available later for the laptop PC to
download.

As well as what Tim said.
If you really don't want any of the mail on the Laptop, then delete the
account from OE?
If you just want to peek at them occasionally, then use your ISP's web
interface to have a look.
You can't share OE's store folder over a network.

In addition to the other suggestions you could ask your ISP if they have
IMAP accounts. Then you could just download header information
instead of the entire E-mail (or so I understand; I have never actually
used IMAP myself.)
BTW is the problem that you want to send on that account only?
In that case use the Tools menu command Send All (Alt-T,S,S)
You could also try experimenting with changing the server name
to something which wouldn't connect, such as localhost
(e.g. in Accounts, Mail, Properties, Server, Incoming Mail Server (POP3))
--in case you ever forgot to use that command exclusively and
sometimes tried to use the Send/Receive Toolbar button, etc. <eg>
In that case also there would be some default options which you
would want to change such as (in Options, General tab)
uncheck: Send and Receive messages at startup
uncheck: Check for new messages every...
and in the Mail Account Properties
uncheck: Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing
