OE outbox not working

I have XP and an Outlook Express mailbox with four different identities.
All of them can receive mail, but one of them can't send mail. It was
working fine yesterday (sent several e-mails) but his morning, it just
keeps giving me an error message. I need all of the mail and addresses
in that one, so I don't want to delete the identity and recreate it.
This is the error message I am getting when I try to send mail:
An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL):
No, Error Number: 0x800C012F
I have already deleted the outbox.dbx and restarted the PC and am still
getting the same problem. I looked at the Tools-Options-Maintenance and
it says the file size is 0 bytes (which I don't understand because
there is mail in there) so I didn't compact anything or perform any
other maintenance.
I am currently in the middle of a job search, so this particular e-mail
identity is critical.
Please help!!!!!

That should have fixed it. Did you delete the Outbox.dbx with OE closed? You
said there is mail in it. If you delete any dbx folder with mail in it, you
will lose the mail. Are you sure you deleted the Outbox for the correct
identity?
You can try deleting Sent Items and see if that works. Move any mail you
wish to save first.

Why does the error message show "port 0" instead of "port 25"? I would
expect that outbound mail would be using port 25.

I tried deleting the outbox.dbx three times. I don't think that I had OE
open, but maybe I did. When I noticed that the sent folder wasn't
showing me any mail, I went in and changed both Outbox and Sent to
oldOutbox and oldsent. I then rebooted the PC and now it is working,
but I lost all of my sent mail.
When I try to go look at the oldSent, it asks for which program to open
it with. I browse to Outlook Express and click open. All it does after
that is opens Outllok Express, but doesn't show me the folder I want. I
tried doing it with other .dbx folders and it still opens to the main
identity and doesn't show the one I'm trying to open. Is there a way I
can view the OldSent.dbx file?
It's not a tragedy if I can't get to it, just an annoyance.
Thanks for your help (because I had read your instructions to another
user who had the same problem, that's why I knew what to do!)
BTW- when I was searching for the outbox.dbx file, at one point the PC
was not showing all of the identities and I came across an identity
that had an old database file that I thought was gone (KCA.dbx was an
old folder I had for an old identity.) Now, it is showing the
identities, but not that one. If I do a search for the KCA.dbx file, it
finds it, but I can't get to it using Explorer. I have Show Hidden
folders and Files up and the path indicates that it should be where all
of the other identites are found, but I can't see it. Not that it
matters, because I tried opening it from the search and had the same
problem I'm having with the oldSent.dbx file.

To retreive the messages, you'll need one of thes tools:
DBXtract: {Cost: $5.00}
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx
DBXpress: {$24.95, but much faster for large files}
