mail transfer trouble
hello,
i have an mail file from an old system stored on my new computer. it
contains what i had in inbox, sent, drafts etc.
using OE6 on the new one and OE6 on the old one for quite some time but some
of the olde mail might have come from an older OE version. not sure
of this.
i am trying to ship it to the new OE and fouling something up.
the problem may be right at the beginning where it asks you
to select
an e-mail program to import the messages from. what should i be using?
the files are .mbx and dbx. one each for inbox, sent, drafts etc. but they
are different sizes.
the data i want to move is really not in an email program per se is it?
i mean it's in
a file folder on my hard drive. anyway.....
what i need is stored in something called: C:\documents and
settings\owner\profile\....\mail.
i'm using theOE6 import function and the browse/dropdown box and going
all the way to the end of the file name and i get the message:
"no messages can be found in this folder or another app. is running that has
the required files open.
please select another folder or try closing apps. that may have files open."
thanks,
mike

They tell you how to do what you want to do. See this link also:

The mbx and idx files are from OE4. The dbx files are from OE6. Copy the
entire directory of dbx files to the hard drive. Then clear the readonly
attribute of the files. Then go to File | Import | Messages and choose OE6
format and point to that directory. If it still won't import then see here
for message recovery techniques: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4
If you need the old OE4 files, then when importing choose OE4 format and
point to the directory that is above the "mail" directory.
