Connection issues?

I seem to be having a bit of a problem this morning after about 30 minutes
or so, all of my IE pages and my e-mail go down. My DSL (Verizon) modem
still shows connectivity, just as high of a speed as before, but all pages,
(no matter what site I go to), come up "Cannot Be Displayed" and e-mail from
OE will no longer come in. (Like the connection is dead, but it really
isn't.) So, I restart my computer and it all works fine again for about 30
minute and then here we go again. I ran virus scan (AVG) & spyware scan
(SpyBot S&D & MS Antispyware) and both found nothing so I am not sure what
is going on. This all started after installing an update to MSN messenger
this morning so am not sure if it is related or not. I really don't even
want MSN, but it was free software that came with my Verizon stuff. So, I
just went back and uninstalled all MSN related things, but the same problem
happened again and this time I was only connected for 20 minutes. I also
have checked to make sure that my IE is all up to date and the MS site says
that I have all of the current updates.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

PS....I called Verizon and they basically told me that it can't be a problem
in their end because the modem is still showing connectivity.

Please help!

Hi Kristi,

All I can say is I've experienced a similar problem two or three times using
dialup over a number of years. A reconnection would set things right for
awhile, and then the problem would go away after a few days. The exact
technical issue is unknown to me, but most likely is not a local PC problem.

Did you check to see if the hang up after checking emails was unchecked
