I wonder, are there plans for this update to be in WU/MU? I can't recall if
OE updates usually are or not.

As it's neither a critical, security, nor cumulative update (cf. KB887797),
don't count on it.
Repeat: You must have Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed to
install this update.

Correction: KB900930 *may* appear at WU/MU in future.

I have OE6 but I just show an OE5.5 Service Pack update at WindowsUpdate.
Maybe it's related (I suppose it applies to SP6 too)

Anyone know why this was rereleased today? Some of the files inside of the
file have newer dates, but the names are masked so it's impossible to tell
what they are.

Huh?
This was released a week ago .
We've been waiting for these fixes (amongst others) for up to 8 years - so
don't complain too loud!<g>

Check the date on the article and on the download page contained in the
article and inside the file once you download it again. If the information
in the article is accurate, the two files that are installed haven't
changed, so perhaps it was just a glitch with the installer that was fixed.

Interesting - The filesize is identical to the old patch, but the delivery
mechanism is different.
There's a major change in the order of application of the updates - and six
of the modules have been updated.

Why doesn't this update show up in Windows Update v6?

Rumour has it that it will - eventually. It's not, however classed as a
Security update, and therefore the process will take a little longer.
