I have turned off the AVG email scanner, made sure that my 'plain text' box
was unchecked, and I still get the paperclip on all incoming emails. Do i
have to restart in order for this to take effect?

You should always post back to the original thread and include all problems
and replies so we know what you are talking about.
As for this, I don't know if a reboot is needed, but it would have been
faster to do than re-post.

Previously, i had posted to original threads and received no replies until i
posted a new question, so I wasn't sure if there was a time limit on posting
to original threads.
Sorry if I bothered anyone.

The time limit is about 90 days, and you didn't offend anyone. If you start
a new thread, just copy/paste the original info into it so we know what the
original question was and what suggestions were made.

That may be because you ARE reading in plain text and the sender sent in
HTML. Did you check/open the attachment? If it is a direct copy of what
you are already seeing then the above applies.
