I have just re-installed OE and re-subscribed to my NewGroups. Looking at
Windows Explorer, some files are named Newgroupname(1).dbx.
I am curious as to the reason for this happening and would like file names
to be in the style Newgroupname.dbx.
I would appreciate it if someone could tell me why this happens and how to
change the files names. It is not so easy as just changing the files name!
Thanks.

If you already had newsgroups listed in your default message store and they
were not deleted from there after your reinstallation, the new groups that
you have subscribed to will have the number (1) appended to them. You can
solve it by eliminating all newsgroup.dbx file from your message store
(Outlook Express must be closed when you do this) and then resubscribe.
Changing the file names will not work as you've already discovered.
