When posting or sending an email to a newsgroup, I click on send and get a
small window with a blank message, blank boxes and an x in the upper corner.
The only way to get rid of it is to click the x. It will not let me send my
message. In order to do so, I have to save to draft and send from there.
No problems from draft. What in the world is this? I have scanned for
everything and every bug but nothing. Deleted all my dbx files and
newsgroups and reinstalled them but to no avail. Thanks.

Windows version?
Did you close OE and delete (1) Outbox.dbx and (2) Sent Items.dbx from your
identity's store?
General OE Caveats:
- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.
- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.
- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.
- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Never do. Always set up my own little folders and mail rules for incoming
to go to them.

Have it set to automatically do so upon closing.

Is disabled and run a compact once a week, offline. Will check out site,
though.

That I didn't do. Will try disabling it since it scans both incoming and
outgoing. That may be it. Probably a corrupt file. Didn't think of that.
Will try sfc /scannow but if that doesn't work will reinstall ie and oe;
since I have the IE6SP1 disk don't have to do the registry hack to reinstall
it. Thank you.

I don't think you need to reinstall. If you had the AV set to scan email,
that could be part of the problem. The description of your message box also
suggests that the system fonts may be correct, if the letters are little
boxes instead of text. Try rebooting to fix that.
You might also try setting up a new Identity and see if that fixes the
problem.

It was the AV scan. I never had background compaction on, always turn it
off, found that out years ago. This was a weird problem that I tried
everything and reached my limit only to find out it had a simple fix thanks
to you both. I had just updated
to NIS 2005 and should have thought of that since this had never happened
before.
After turning it off, running sfc /scannow, and rebooting it was fine. The
message reads fine now, telling me the email is going to outbox, etc., which
to me is redundant since that is expected.
Thanks to you both. Much appreciated.

Forgot to say, the problem was that it was hanging in scan mode due to the
antivirus scan, in case anyone else has this problem. Thanks a bunch!
