I communicated via this format before, but since things changed considerably
from the original post, I felt it best to start from scratch.

I now have a new HP computer using Windows XP, with Service Pack 2. I am
also using Outlook Express for my e-mail program. The hyperlinks within any
received e-mail body copy to Websites will not work. Yet, the hyperlinks to
e-mails work fine. I tried many different options setting, two fixes, a
patch, downloading a new file, all from hp, and all to no avail. Yet, one
time (only) all the links connections actually worked - and just recently.
No reason for this, and back to not working again on my very next try to
Outlook Express. Does not make any sense to me. Any suggestions?

Everything works fine if I get e-mails through EarthLink. Think there is any
issue with that because Outlook Express seems to extract the e-mails from
EarthLink, where I can't get them back to EarthLink once loaded in Outlook
Express?

When you hover over a link in an OE message with your cursor, does the
cursor change to a "hand"? Is "Read all messages in plain text" enabled at
Tools > Options > Read?

Here's the usual fix:

1. You click on a hyperlink and an IE window doesn't even open/nothing
happens: See http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx

2. You click on a hyperlink and an IE window opens but it doesn't load:

Re-register all DLLs listed in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a
side-effect. Check in at Windows Update.
