Does Outlook and outlook Express use the same pst file?

For over 3 years I have used Microsoft Outlook for business email accounts
and Microsoft Outlook Express for personal email accounts on the same
computer without having any problems.

I recently moved the Personal Folders.pst file for the Outlook accounts
(business) to a removable drive (F:\Email\Personal Folders.pst) and reset the
Path in Personal Folder Properties. Everything worked fine in Outlook after
doing this.

However, because of this change in Outlook, I am having problems with
Outlook Express (personal accounts) where I did not make any changes.

Each time I try to open Outlook Express I get the error massage: "The path
specified for the file F:\Email\Personal Folders.pst does not exist." When I
click cancel, I get another message: "The Address Book failed to load.
Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install."

I then click OK and Outlook Express opens showing all my messages but if I
try to open any message I get another error: "There was an error opening this
message. An error has occured".

What could be the problem here? Is Outlook Express linked to Outlook? Any
help to resolve this problem is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rosemary.

It seems that the address book has been linked to the Outlook address
book, following a procedure as described here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/196348/EN-US/

What version of Outlook are you using? May it be that you configured
the shared Address Book years ago?

Are you able to restore the PST file to its former place? If yes, then
do so. OE should work fine again. Using the method of above article
the opposite way should remove the link between the Windows and the
Outlook Address Book. Then you should be able to remove the PST file
without disturbing OE. Hth.
