The find message doesn't find any emails

It comes straight back without finding any emails at all.
I have checked the current view and "show all messages" is ticked. I have
read the Tom Koch article (very useful and clear) about maintenance and gone
through all the options. I have been talked through remove and install by my
computers supplier (Toshiba) and still no improvement. I have run all virus,
adware and spybot checks - though I don't seem to be able to download the
latest security etc updates.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you using Outlook Express menu, Edit/Find/Message, then hit the Browse
button to browse to the desired mail or news folder? What version of
Outlook Express are you using as shown in the Help/About screen in Outlook
Express?

Jim
Thanks for picking this one up. You asked :
> Are you using Outlook Express menu, Edit/Find/Message, then hit the Browsebutton to browse to the desired mail or news folder?
Going via this route or via the Navigation bar 'find' yields the same result
- you click on find and it comes straight back with nothing - it looks very
much like it just doesn't run the process as it comes back right away with a
blank.
The version number is 6.00 or to be exact : 6.00.2900.2180
There doesn't seem to be any other problems with the folders or emails. I
have had corrupted folders before and this doesn't seem to exhibit any other
strange behaviour. BUT it is a very painful one as I use Outlook Expresss as
my filing cabinet for incoming and outgoing communications (I do copy across
to subfolders etc) I have ticked the subfolders box and I haven't ticked the
date boxes either.
I would have thought that a reinstall might do the trick but I bought the
computer from Toshiba direct and there is only a recovery disk - so my
options are a bit limited.

Are you entering any criteria for it to search for in either the Subject or
Body of the messages in a folder? You might try a reinstall of IE/OE using
the method outlined in this KB article which works in all operating systems
except Windows 95:
