It's usually a problem on Hotmail's side. Wait a while and try again.

I got that once today.. I just clicked "ok" and the messages downloaded anyway though it is supposed to mean "can't find server". Just try later. With so many subscribers, I am sure some have a problem at some time that does not effect everyone.

I've had that for a couple of days now, and it doesn't seem to go away. Is
there anybody we can contact for this? Is Microsoft monitoring this newsgroup?

Thanks "mae", but I still have the problem can't connect Hotmail with
Outlook Express,
Don't Know what to do next , I have been trying since last night,
Kath Adams tried to help me too, I appreciate all your help.
Do you think It has to do with Firewalls ?
I installed a router a couple of days ago but everything looked normal.
Thanks , L G.

You'll probably find it's at their end, happened to me this morning then
this afternoon downloaded with no problems but it's on the blink again now

I am in the same boat. I have been using hotmail for over 6 years without
too many issues. Since the change not allowing http access from the Outlook
client with the exception of those grandfathered, I have been having
intermittent problems for a couple of weeks now. I have not had access to
hotmail through my Outlook 2002 since May 27th. I can access it ok using the
web browser though.
I have tried resetting username and password, deleted hotmail account in
Outlook and reinstalled account in Outlook, ran "Inbox repair" all to no
avail.
I have 6 other accounts all working fine through Outlook and that includes
Yahoo email http using YPOPs! without a hitch.
Microsoft how about a helping hand. I sent support an email and I am
waiting for their reply. Still waiting..............

Mostly just commenting that I'm seeing the same problems. Actually started a
while back, but is getting worse and worse. If I was a paying customer of
their Hotmail email service, I'd certainly be furious, and since we don't
seem to be seeing so many furious posts of that type, I think we have to
conclude that the paying customers are somehow getting much better service
than I'm seeing. For me these days, Hotmail through OE is failing about 90%
of the time. In my situation, it's only a very minor secondary email account
(mostly for testing purposes and only because it's free), but the fact that
OE sometimes hangs at that point and fails to check the other email accounts
is rather more serious and annoying. Maybe the problem is my network
connection from Japan makes the problem worse and more visible?
Anyway, if Microsoft is trying to sell hotmail accounts, they are going
about it in a very funny fashion. If they are trying to demonstrate their
superior server capabilities and low, low "costs of ownership", then it's
even funnier.
Is Microsoft really so hard up for computing resources? Or maybe they've
just been overwhelmed by the spam?
