Hello,

Each time I exit OE, I get this annoying popup asking me to start
compression of emails. I don't need this and want to remove the popup.
Haven't found anything in the options panel or registry. Does anyone know
how to achieve this.

Thank you,

Tim

You need to let it do it. No way around it. If you tick "don't show this
again", it will anyway but not ask your opinion and compact anyway. I don't
care for it either and because some people have reported losing emails after
doing it, I back up my OE *very* regularly. Once you've done it, it won't
ask again until you've closed OE 100 times. That said, I have done it
numerous times with no problems whatsoever.

There is a tool that you can plug in to OE to do your compacting and it
resets the automatic compacting to zero. I'm sure someone will post the URL
to that tool.

It is a good idea to let it complete *Compacting*.
Or do it manually>OE>file>work offline>select outlook express in the folder
tree>file>folder>compact all folders.

Do not store large amounts of mail in the default folders.

Turn off the email scan in yout AV software, it causes many problems in OE.

For the prompt:

Go to: Start>Run>Regedit>OK and find this key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{long number}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\5.0. In the right
hand pane and find *Compact Check Count* >right click>modify>decimal>and set
the value to 0,
(zero). This will reset the prompt, and you won't see it again for
another 100 closings.
----
FYI:
Steve Cochran has added a button in his new version of *OE Tool*
that will Compact All Folders, and at the same time,
resets the "Compact Check Count" to zero whenever you compact
manually.
You will see the prompt again if you do not compact
before 100 closings.
